Feeding Our Community: The Invisible Backbone of Juniata County’s Food System

Did You Know?

  • Juniata County has over 514 farms covering nearly 86,000 acres.
  • Local agriculture generates nearly $199 million in food products each year.
  • But none of it would be possible without the essential labor of immigrants, many of whom are undocumented.

Who Are These Workers?

  • In Pennsylvania, about 50% of farm workers are believed to be undocumented.
  • In meatpacking, 14% to over 50% of workers may be undocumented.
  • They work the land, care for livestock, process food—and help feed us all.

Why It Matters

  • These workers are vital to our food supply.
  • They are part of our community—raising families, paying taxes, attending church and school.
  • They face immense risk, yet remain invisible.

Stand With Those Who Feed Us

  • Acknowledge their role.
  • Support humane, inclusive immigration policies.
  • Share their story.

“If you ate today, thank a farmworker.”
