Good Morning,
On June 14th from 9:30-12:00 we’ll be in front of the Juniata County Courthouse in Mifflintown, peacefully protesting as a part of the NO KINGS national day of action. Click here to register.
From NO KINGS’ website:
“NO KINGS is a national day of action and mass mobilization in response to increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from Trump and his allies. We’ve watched as they’ve cracked down on free speech, detained people for their political views, threatened to deport American citizens, and defied the courts. They’ve done this all while continuing to serve and enrich their billionaire allies.”
Strategic Good Trouble
Good Trouble means different things at different times and places. Sometimes it’s bold, sometimes it’s subtle. Sometimes it’s loud, and other times it’s more reserved. But it’s necessary, good trouble.
From the national No Kings organizers: A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
A final note
There is already rumbling in the community about counter-protesting our presence. We can surely anticipate seeing our militia buddies. We will be baited and taunted and provoked, as those who disagree exercise their free speech. We are under no obligation to refute their lies or engage with their bad faith arguments. That doesn’t mean we back away or refuse to turn up. It doesn’t mean that we can’t voice our disagreement with their hate— but we cannot give them the excuse they’re looking for to escalate.
Thank you,
Spencer McLaughlin, Chair
Juniata County Democratic Committee
PS – Some of our neighbors from Mifflin County are planning to attend our demonstration, from 9:30-10:30 and then have their own in Lewistown. They’ve invited us to join them at the square, where they’ll be until 1:00.
