As part of the 2025 budget, the Juniata County Board of Commissioners voted adopted a 5 mil increase in real estate tax, bringing us to 30 mils, equal to $3 for every $100 assessed on your property (source). The simplest explanation for this increase is that our county’s income can’t keep up with inflation. However, this increase was accompanied by a substantial drop in funding to the Juniata County Library, which many of our neighbors are having trouble reconciling.

Supporting the Juniata County Library

In the Juniata County 2025 Budget, the Juniata County Library has been allocated $45,000. The Library had received $90,000 annuallygoing back to 2010. By halving this long-relied-upon funding stream, the library has lost 16% of their total budget. It is not easy to fundraise your out from a deficit of $45K.
